Lingtlanguage

The PHA Spanish Department is excited to announce a new program that we’re using to assess student’s oral proficiency! This year we will be piloting a program to track student progress through Lingtlanguage which is an online tool for helping foreign language teachers and students get the most out of language education. It allows teachers to create online assessments that students will perform using headsets and microphones to record speaking in Spanish. Once the student has recorded themselves speaking, the program will allow students to directly e-mail it to the student. The program also allows for teachers to respond through written or audio response to a students. It’s easy to find your assessments, just use the formula below:

Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month begins on September 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries—Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico declared its independence on September 16, and Chile on September 18.

The term Hispanic, as defined by the U.S. Census Bureau, refers to Spanish-speaking people in the United States of any race. On the 2000 Census form, people of Spanish/Hispanic/Latino origin could identify themselves as Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, or “other Spanish/Hispanic/Latino.” More than 35 million people identified themselves as Hispanic or Latino on the 2000 Census.
